Classical Self Portrait

I’ve always wanted to mix Eastern and Western mythologies together so in these series, I attempted to merge the Japanese sun goddess, Amaterasu and Greek/Italian aesthetic together for a romantic/classical feel. Whenever I’m feeling down, I always imagine myself as a fiery sun goddess shining bright. Her warmth and passion brings me back to life. Using those key emotions, I decided to make the whole image warm with various orange gels. It took awhile to figure out the best lighting and angle of the mirror but after hours of running back and forth on the timer (I really need a remote trigger), I finally got what I was going for. My cat eventually joined the shot too.

I’m quite happy with the results. I wish I had done some things differently but I would have needed some assistance and more lighting which I didn’t have at the moment. I forgot my love for reflections and mirrors. I would love to create an entirely differently setting using mirrors…perhaps some broken mirrors..? Stay tuned…
